Volunteering

I volunteer. Over my life, I’ve volunteered a lot. I love it. It doesn’t matter what you do, only that you do it. Currently I’m involved with the below groups and organisations.

St John Ambulance Victoria

Go Girl, Go for IT

Unofficially I’m also involved with others. I won’t name the specific partied since my involvement is in an unofficial capacity, but here’s what else I do on the side.

Music & lyrics

When I was young, music became a huge part of my life. I was classically trained from age 7. I played in my school band (lame!) and two different orchestras (anything but lame!). And while I’m no contender for The Voice, I can sing. The flute is my primary musical weapon, although I’m not bad with an acoustic guitar, a piano or a saxophone either. In my mid teens, I added dramatic arts into the list of things I was doing, initially to overcome shyness. I would go on to do 22 theater shows taking lead roles in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ (Audrey), ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (Belle), ‘Taming of the Shrew’ (Katherina) and Cinderella (Lady Tramaine). Several people from those days still are involved in creating theater and musicals. For the most part, any assistance I give is the musical aspects of the shows. I’ve written songs (music & lyrics) to accompany an entirely new production written by one of the playwrights. I’ve written world’s silliest jingles that would make any bad commercial blush. I’ve turned well-known numbers on their head and reinvented them. I’ve written musical interludes. There are some shows where I don’t have to do anything. And as long as these brilliant and talented friends of mine want me to keep contributing, I will continue to do so.
